Compact 20-inch wheels have the advantage over larger wheels of being able to accelerate quicker and brake easier, which makes sense given the start-stop nature of city riding. Compact wheels are also stronger, so riding over curbs isn't a problem.
Soma designed Rufus to handle pretty much like a full-sized bike, but it's less bulky in length. And that means fewer dirty looks when you push it into an elevator or a commuter train. It also takes up less space in your apartment. And if you have to carry your bike up a few flights of stairs, the clatter of the front wheel is less of a nuisance.
The Rufus' unusual geometry also allows you to extend the cockpit length if you raise the seat height, which (when using the right parts) means one bike can accommodate a wide range of body sizes. Multiple family members can share one bike. Or you can lend it to a smaller or larger friend.
